Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was undertaken in advance of the construction of one part of the business park. The site is situated to the north of Ashbourne on the corner between the Rath Road and the N2. Three features were identified, comprising a pit containing cremated bone, an area of oxidised clay (hearth) and a further pit containing charcoal but no obvious bone. These features attest to prehistoric activity in the area and radiocarbon dating will allow the features to be dated. Further monitoring may discover the location of dwellings associated with the cremation.
