Testing within the area of archaeological constraint of an enclosure was undertaken in early October 2003, necessitated by works associated with the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme, Stage 1, Contract 6 (No. 1333, Excavations 2003, 03E1208). This testing zone was 50m long by 15m wide and c. 40m away from the monument.
The area was tested mechanically and stripped of sod and topsoil to bedrock. Evidence of recent soil disturbance was indicated by the presence of local group water scheme pipes, electrical conduit and a series of ESB poles on the southern side of the test area. No deposits, features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered.
