Monitoring of topsoil removal and pipe-laying associated with the Ballyhaunis Water Supply Augmentation Scheme was completed under this licence. The project involved pipe-laying in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. The scheme also included the construction of a reservoir and valve houses. Work began in June 2002 and was completed in December 2003.

The scheme was c. 10km long and the pipeline wayleave varied from 15 to 25m in width. The areas monitored included undulating pastureland, low-lying marsh and roadway and roadside verge. At many locations along the route, land had been disturbed by drainage, land reclamation, urban development, agricultural activity and local water schemes. Pre-development testing has taken place within the protected areas of two monuments (Excavations 2002, Nos 1391 and 1385, 02E0729 and 02E0730).

An isolated boiling pit containing burnt-mound material was uncovered in Hazlehill. A fulacht fiadh in Devlis was identified during monitoring. The site was excavated in advance of pipe-laying (Excavations 2002, No. 1387, 02E1777).
