The Limerick Broadband Metropolitan Area Network Project involved the construction of a metropolitan dark fibre and ducting ring network around Limerick city. Monitoring of the area that lies within the zone of archaeological potential commenced on 2 July 2003 and continued as required until 25 September. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded. The trenches were usually adjacent to existing services or were cut through modern fill. Some brick-built cellars were noted. No trace of the city wall was exposed at New Road, although the line of the rampart was evident on the base of the trench.
