Pre-construction testing was undertaken as part of road realignment and widening at Tomrud, Co. Leitrim. The works are to commence near a ringfort. There was no evidence of archaeological deposits discovered during testing. This was not surprising, considering the extensive, modern ground disturbances that have affected the area over the latter half of the 20th century (water mains, road construction, a bungalow and associated garden). In addition, along part of the tested line, large stockpiles of gravel and aggregate had been stored by the County Council. As part of preparatory works for storing the stockpiles, sod and topsoil had been removed to build a storage area, thus reducing levels to the natural depositions. Extensive peat deposits were found along the route, although no archaeological remains were found within the peat.
