The site of the proposed development, to consist of a substantial extension to the cemetery surrounding the abbey, is located to the south of Creevelea Abbey. Three sections of the proposed site were stripped of topsoil during February 2003. The site had been previously tested by Richard Crumlish, with no archaeological remains revealed. No evidence of archaeological deposits or features was identified in any of the areas monitored.
