The site of the proposed development, a small plot between two buildings on the Dublin Road, Carrick-on-Shannon, is located within the zone of archaeological potential for the post-medieval walled town. The proposed development is to consist of an extension to the adjacent shop. Testing took place on 21 June 2003. Three trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. They measured 5m, 9m and 10m long by 1m wide. All were excavated to a depth of 1–1.2m. No archaeological remains were uncovered.
