The proposed development at Bridge Street, to consist of a small extension to an existing shop unit, is to the rear of the last building at the south end of the street before the bridge. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for the post-medieval town of Carrick-on-Shannon. Monitoring of excavation works was carried out on 30 October 2003. The existing concrete surface rested directly atop natural subsoil consisting of a compact grey clay with small stones. It was excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.4m. There was no evidence of any archaeological activity on the site.
