The proposed development at Carrickfad, Fivemilebourne, is to consist of a house, access and septic tank/percolation area on a half-acre site which is near a ringfort. Monitoring of excavation works was carried out on 20 January 2003. Topsoil consisted of a dark-brown clay with small stones. It ranged between 0.2 and 0.35m deep, being deeper to the west. This layer rested on natural subsoil consisting of a light-grey to yellow clay. There was no evidence of any archaeological activity on the site.
