Centre-line testing was carried out along the proposed route of the Heath–Mayfield motorway in the townlands of Ballyshaneduff or The Derries, Ballyadding, Jamestown or Ballyteigeduff and Kilaglish, Co. Laois. Four sites or complexes of features were later excavated as a result of this work. A fulacht fiadh, in the townland of Ballyshaneduff or The Derries, was excavated by Thaddeus Breen (No. 1059 below, 03E0662). A small complex of features, including a corn-drying kiln, in the townland of Ballyshaneduff or The Derries was excavated by Gary Conboy (No. 1060 below, 03E0678). A complex of features, including several hearths, together with post-hole activity and evidence of earlier field boundaries, in the townland of Ballyshaneduff or The Derries, was excavated by John Channing (No. 1061 below, 03E0690). A complex of features in the townland of Jamestown, including a possible bowl furnace, possible hearths and one pit, was excavated by Patricia Lynch (03E0679).
