Planning permission was granted for the construction of a function/dining room with two apartments overhead at 13 Parliament Street/Evans Lane, Kilkenny, with a condition which required testing. The site lies within the zone of archaeological potential for the city. Three trenches were excavated by machine on the site. A basement was found to the rear of No. 13 Parliament Street, evident at the east end of two trenches. The site rises from east to west and this was also evident in the trenches, where sand was found rising naturally. Loose rubble fill of 18th-century date was identified on top of the sand. No archaeological finds or features were noted on-site.
