Planning permission was granted for the change of use, material alterations and extension to Nos 57 and 58 John Street, Kilkenny city, with a condition which required testing. Two trenches were excavated on-site using a mini-digger. No finds or features associated with the large medieval ditch found by Paul Stevens at a site on Maudlin Street to the south (Excavations 1998, No. 353, 98E0346) were noted. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded from the test-trenches.
