Planning permission was granted in 1997 for a development at Green Street, Kilkenny, on a site which comprises a 19th-century street-front grain store with a large garden area to the rear. The projected line of the city wall is thought to run through the garden. Testing was carried out on-site in February 1999 (Excavations 1999, No. 442) and no evidence for the city wall was found. Under extensions to this licence, monitoring of site groundworks for the next phases of development was carried out in January and March 2003. This included the digging of foundation trenches for new buildings. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted during monitoring.
