It is proposed to construct a new golf clubhouse facility within the grounds of Carton Demesne. Buildings located within the former stable yard to the south of Carton House will be refurbished. These buildings date from the mid-18th and 19th centuries. In addition, a mid-19th-century racket court will be refurbished and extended and an associated surface carpark will be constructed.
Testing was undertaken in compliance with a condition included in the grant of planning. Nine trenches were excavated by machine across the proposed development area. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered by any excavation works.
