Excavation took place prior to road construction for the M7 Heath–Mayfield Motorway Scheme. Located at Lughil townland, the site comprised four separate concentrations of features initially identified during centre-line testing by Brendán Ó Ríordáin (No. 912, Excavations 2003, 03E0127). Excavations uncovered a wide variety of features, ranging from 19th-century housing to bowl-type furnaces, with associated post-holes and hearths.
