An assessment was undertaken on the riverbank area to be impacted by a new bridge in advance of construction at Ladycastle Lower, Straffan Demesne. The abutments of the bridge are located a minimum of approximately 3.5m north and south of the river. The existing bank level has been surveyed in the range between 60 and 60.7m above datum. Trench 1 measured c. 11m in length, 1.7m in width and was excavated to a maximum depth of 1m below present ground level. This trench reflects its riverside location within an area of cleared woodland. Trench 2 measured c. 11m in length, 1.7m in width and was excavated to a maximum depth of 1.3m below present ground level. This trench reflects its riverside location and the presence of a gravel walkway. No artefacts or stratigraphy of an archaeological nature were identified.
