Monitoring of trench excavation works associated with the Kildare South Regional Water Supply Scheme took place from January to March 2003. Following the preparation of an archaeological assessment report, it was agreed that only parts of the pipeline route would be monitored. These included the pipeline from the junction of the Athy–Calverstown road, through Calverstown and Narraghmore, to the junction of the Narraghmore–Athy road and selected areas along the Athy–Kilcullen road. The only feature of note was a stone culvert to the south of Calverstown at Powell’s Bridge. In addition, all topsoil removal associated with a reservoir site in Castlefarm townland was monitored. Such monitoring uncovered human skeletal remains, which were excavated by Martin Byrne (No. 892, Excavations 2003).
