Centre-line testing of areas of archaeological potential was carried out in the townlands of Lughill, Ballyfarsoon, Monasterevin Bog and Kill. Four sites were later excavated as a result of this work: a fulacht fiadh located in the townland of Ballyfarsoon was excavated by Eamonn Cotter under licence number 03E0571 (No. 874, Excavations 2003) and John Channing excavated a charcoal spread, under licence number 03E0602 (No. 949, Excavations 2003), and a hearth and post-hole under 03E0634 (No. 950, Excavations 2003), all in the townland of Lughill, and a structure of c. 17th-century date together with a possible defensive ditch feature, under 03E0635 (No. 929, Excavations 2003), in Kill townland.
