Testing was undertaken on 1 and 2 October at Site 28 as part of Contract 1 of the N7 Naas Road Widening and Interchanges Scheme. The site was identified as a result of a pre-development geophysical survey carried out by Earthsound Ltd in August 2003. Site 28 was recognised as an area of potential archaeological significance, as a possible enclosure was noted slightly to the south of the land-take in the EIS.
Four trenches were excavated to natural by machine. In addition, centre-line and offset trenches were excavated. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded. A band of iron panning recorded in the trenches could partly explain the results of the geophysical survey.
