Monitoring of topsoil-stripping for the Bord Gáis Éireann pipeline from Confey to Collinstown, Leixlip, Co. Kildare, was undertaken for Project Management Ltd on behalf of BGE.
The pipeline corridor on the northern outskirts of Leixlip runs for a length of 3.1km, through the townlands of Confey and Leixlip, between the aboveground installation (AGI) at Confey and the proposed AGI at Collinstown. It commences at the existing AGI at Confey and runs south to the R149, following the road to the west until it joins the main route just south of the road and to the west of a farmyard. It crosses the R149 and turns towards the Royal Canal. From there, it follows the northern side of the canal in a westerly direction and crosses into Leixlip townland via a small tributary of the Rye Water. The route proceeds along the flood-plains of the Rye Water, crosses the watercourse just north of a small stone bridge and finally terminates at the proposed AGI at Collinstown.
Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during this programme of monitoring.
