Testing took place on 25 August 2003 at a site in Cloncurry, Co. Kildare. The proposed development is located within the area of archaeological constraint for and to the south of the standing remains of the deserted medieval settlement of Cloncurry.
Three trenches were excavated with a small mini-digger across the development site. They revealed a relatively uniform stratigraphy across the area of the development. The sod lies on top of a layer of dark-brown silty sandy clay which in turn lies on top of a sandy subsoil. Towards the western end of the site the subsoil becomes mixed and the sandy subsoil grades into a tan/brown boulder clay. Two small features were noted in Trench 3 towards the western end of the site. Both these features are similar and are cut into the subsoil. It was not thought that either was archaeologically significant.
