Testing at a proposed water reservoir site at Castlefarm townland was undertaken during 2002 (Excavations 2002, No. 883), in advance of the commencement of the Kildare South Water Supply Scheme. No features of archaeological interest were uncovered, although one sherd of medieval pottery was recovered.
Monitoring of topsoil-stripping associated with the construction of the reservoir uncovered the remains of a single human skeleton. This lay in a shallow rectangular grave-cut and was orientated east–west, with the head to the west, suggestive of a Christian burial rite. There were no accompanying artefacts to assist in the dating of the remains, although it is planned to submit a fragment of bone for dating.
Analysis by Clare Mullins indicated that the remains were of a male in the 16–22 years of age category.
