Testing was carried out at Site 13 on 15 August 2003 as part of the programme of testing for the N7 Naas Road Widening and Interchanges Scheme. Situated on either side of the Painstown River, research undertaken as part of the EIS identified the area as supporting a cluster of fulachta fiadh in a rough uneven area measuring approximately 50m by 10m. A portion of this area was noted to be in the land-take. During the most recent survey, however, the area was assessed as a flood-plain, with the uneven surfaces being explained as a result of riverine activity and not as representing archaeological remains.
Nine trenches testing six mounds were excavated to natural by machine. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded.
