Monitoring was undertaken of topsoil-stripping/general ground reduction works associated with the construction of a single dwelling at Ballybarney, Narraghmore. Blackhall Castle, a ruined tower-house (SMR 32:19), is located c. 250m to the north-west of the development area. This was constructed in the 15th century by the FitzEustace family. A sheela-na-gig, located to the right of the southern entrance, is the only extant example in Co. Kildare.
All required topsoil-stripping and general levels reduction was monitored. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered.
