Permission was granted to demolish a vacant commercial premises with outbuildings and to construct a building with commercial and residential uses. Conditions attached to the granting of planning required assessment of the site, inspection of the standing structures, excavation of test-trenches and possible monitoring of demolition and foundation trenches.
The testing and assessment showed that the site had been built up with redeposited material before the standing structures were built, around 1830. Before then the site had been used as a burgage plot. No evidence of archaeologically important material was found during testing.
A building report with drawings and photographs was compiled by Phelim Manning.
