The Golfing Union of Ireland proposes a new headquarters and museum development within the grounds of Carton Demesne. It is proposed to refurbish the former early 19th-century gamekeeper’s house and outbuildings, including kennels, and construct a new building within this complex. In addition, two surface carparks will also be constructed.
Testing was undertaken in advance of the application for planning permission. Ten trenches were excavated by machine across the proposed development area. In addition, the excavation of geotechnical trial-pits was monitored. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered by any excavation works.
