The site was identified during pre-development N7 road widening centre-line testing by Shane Delaney (No. 881, Excavations 2002, 03E1606) carried out between 13 and 17 October 2003. The Naas Road Widening and Interchanges Scheme is essentially an improvement of the existing N7 between Maudlins Interchange and the Dublin/Kildare county boundary.
Site 14A was located north of the existing N7 in a large open field immediately west of the Castlewarden Road. A 25m by 25m site was opened around the area of known archaeological importance in November 2003. A possible cut feature was exposed that extended north–south and appeared to be a possible ditch. It had a maximum width of 2.2m and a minimum depth of 0.25m. Two small areas of burning were identified over 10m to the west. Excavation revealed that the possible ditch represented a geological anomaly and was not of archaeological significance. The two burnt spreads measured no more than 0.5m in diameter and were not dated. The lack of features in the immediate vicinity suggests that they were not of particular archaeological significance
