Testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed development situated at Manor West, Tralee, on 14 and 15 February 2003. The site is on the southeastern outskirts of Tralee on the Killerisk Road. To the south-east of the site is an outcropping reef upon which a number of small mounds are positioned. It is speculated that such features may be prehistoric in date and the site has been subjected to a Registration Order. In addition, monitoring by Laurence Dunne (Excavations 2000, No. 454, 00E0069) uncovered a complex of archaeological features and artefacts of Neolithic and Bronze Age date in the adjacent Manor West Retail Park.
Testing consisted of the machine excavation of seven trenches within the boundaries of the property. This revealed a 0.3–0.45m layer of topsoil overlying a compact sandy clay. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
