Monitoring was required of the construction of 24 houses and associated services at Ratass, Tralee. The development site comprised 2.86 acres, the eastern side of which was delimited by a tributary of the River Lee. Ratass Church (SMR 29:157), a 7th- or 8th-century foundation, is located c. 400m to the west. Topsoil was stripped by mechanical excavator using a flat bucket. This stratum varied in depth from 0.05 to 0.4m and contained sherds of modern china, glass and a clay-pipe fragment. The natural substratum was exposed directly beneath topsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was encountered in the course of monitoring.
