Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out at Killeen, Tralee, prior to the construction of 53 houses. Three archaeological features were found.
A single post-hole was uncovered in the northeast area of the site. It was circular in plan and measured 0.36m by 0.45m by 0.25m deep. The lower fill included charcoal, burnt clay and four amorphous metal objects. The objects were too badly corroded to warrant conservation.
In the south-east of the site a shallow linear feature was recorded. It measured 0.4m by 1.2m by 0.1m. The silty clay fill included frequent shattered stone and charcoal. A spread of grey-brown silty clay with frequent burnt clay and occasional charcoal flecks was located to the south.
On the western side of the development site a small deposit of heat-shattered stone was recorded. It measured 1.2m by 0.7m by 0.05m deep. The black silty material included 50% red shattered sandstone and occasional charcoal flecks.
