Monitoring of topsoil removal was undertaken prior to the development of student accommodation and associated works. The site is located on the northwestern suburbs of Tralee town, just south-west of Forge Cross.
The south-western corner of the site falls within the zone of archaeological potential for an enclosure, SMR 29:93, in the townland of Muing West. The site appears on the first-edition OS map but is not shown on the second-edition. Most of the area covered within this zone of archaeological potential has been developed in recent years and the enclosure has not been located.
The proposed development was cleared of vegetation prior to the commencement of topsoil removal, the topsoil was then stripped by machine and no archaeological features were revealed.
