A test excavation was carried out at Doonimlaghbeg, Ballymacelligot, Co. Kerry, in association with the proposed development of two houses and associated services. The remains of Bealagellagh Castle (SMR 39:4) are situated c. 30m west of the proposed development site. A machine with a 1m flat bucket was used to excavate test-trenches along the footprints of the proposed house foundations, driveway and percolation area. No archaeological artefacts or deposits were encountered during the testing.
