Test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of a development site on the foreshore at Caherciveen. The topsoil was a sandy clay with shale stones. The natural subsoil was a yellow–orange clay. Shale bedrock was exposed in places. No archaeological stratigraphy was encountered.
