Pre-construction testing was undertaken on the site as part of further information for the construction of an 8m timber pole, two Vodafone RBS outdoor units and associated site works at Brackaharagh, Caherdaniel. The development site is near the edge of a constraint area for an enclosure and children’s burial ground.
Four trenches were opened on the site. A single agricultural furrow was revealed in one of them. Considering how near the bedrock is to the surface and the hostile nature of the terrain, it was not surprising that further agricultural features were not discovered. There was one possible feature revealed in one of the other test-trenches—a stone-filled peat hollow. However, after investigation it proved to be of natural derivation. Nothing was revealed that could be associated with the nearby children’s burial ground.
