Test excavations were carried out at the Ballycarty Estate outside Tralee before the construction of eleven dwellings. The site is in the grounds of Ballycarty House Estate c. 5km south-east of the urban centre of Tralee.
Twenty trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator. Eleven were positioned on the footprint of the foundations of the houses, while the remainder were along the route of the roadway.
Positive archaeological results were recorded in two of the trenches. Flecks of mortar and a small area of relatively modern burning were recorded in Trench 15, while a wall terminal with an extensive layer of mortar were recorded in Trench 14.
