Eight trenches were excavated in the course of predevelopment testing undertaken prior to the construction of 34 dwelling-houses and an apartment block with associated services. The stratigraphy encountered was similar in most of the trenches and consisted of sod overlying a natural marl and/or directly on the natural gravel. In the better-quality land in the north-east of the site, two trenches exposed sod and topsoil overlying a light brown clayey subsoil, which in turn overlay a sandy natural gravel layer. No features of archaeological significance were revealed.
