Pre-development testing was undertaken in advance of a proposed extension to Drumacoo graveyard in south County Galway. The proposed extension of 0.16ha is to the north-east of the existing church and graveyard. Prior to testing, an assessment and a geophysical survey had been undertaken. The geophysical survey identified a number of possible features, which were the subject of this testing. Eight trenches were excavated in the course of testing. A shell midden was identified in the base of a cut feature uncovered in Trench 1. The midden material consisted of periwinkle and oyster shell with occasional animal bones throughout. No archaeological features were uncovered in the other seven trenches excavated.
