Testing was carried out at a proposed development site on 24 May 2003 in the townland of Cloonkeenkerrill, Co. Galway. The proposed development is located to the north-west of the Cloonkeenkerrill Abbey (SMR 72:14) and to the west of a number of associated earthworks. The ground is relatively flat in the area of the development, which is situated on the western side of a small country road which divides the site from the abbey and earthworks.
A large tracking machine with a 1.25m-wide toothless bucket was used to excavate four trenches across the site. Nothing of any archaeological significance was revealed.
