The site of a former earthwork enclosure lies immediately adjacent to the route of the proposed N6 Galway to Ballinasloe national road scheme. The site is now in improved pasture and there is nothing to be seen on the surface. Ten test-pits (1m by 1m) were opened by hand along the proposed road margin nearest the site. Some burnt or reddened soil was found at the base of the topsoil in three test-pits and two pits contained possible truncated cut features (small pits or gullies). Several pits also contained evidence of cultivation, however, and it is clear that the site has been heavily truncated both by tillage and by recent agricultural improvements.
The work was conducted by Galway County Council and funded by the National Roads Authority under the aegis of the National Development Plan 2002–2006.
