Monitoring was undertaken of topsoil-stripping of the development site and the excavations for a proposed hotel which is in the vicinity of a towerhouse and ecclesiastical remains at Cahergowan, Claregalway. Over most of the site a natural subsoil and marl underlay the topsoil, with a grey sandy gravel underlying topsoil in the north of the site. The excavations for the proposed hotel ranged from 1.2 to 1.8m in depth and the stratigraphy comprised topsoil overlying a natural subsoil, which in turn overlay a natural sandy gravel layer. No features of archaeological significance were encountered.
