Monitoring associated with the development of a large housing scheme on the outskirts of Athenry was undertaken in 2002 and completed in 2003. The development site is located to the south of the site of a roadway. Pre-development testing was previously undertaken at the roadway site in 2002 by Martin Fitzpatrick (Excavations 2002, Nos 754 and 755). Monitoring was concentrated on the removal of topsoil for the construction of houses and roadways throughout the site. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the course of monitoring.
