An assessment was carried out on 11–12 June 2003 on a proposed residential development at Stoney Road, Rathcoole. The site lies just outside the zone of archaeological potential for Rathcoole village (SMR 21:30). A possible font (SMR 21:31) is located within the proposed development site along the northern boundary. Eighteen trenches were excavated across four separate fields. No significant archaeological remains were exposed and no finds recovered. The possible font appears to have been dumped along the field fence. It should be moved to a safe location prior to development and it was recommended that the applicant liaise with the Planning and Heritage Division regarding a suitable location.
