This work was undertaken as part of a programme of testing ahead of the proposed realignment of the N2 Finglas to Ashbourne carriageway. The area investigated lies between Chainage points 2000 and 2100 on the proposed road, in the area designated as Testing Area 3. It was tested by means of a machine-excavated central trench with perpendicular offsets located on either side at 20m intervals. This area lies near a motte, SMR 14:15, which was largely destroyed during a 1952 land project.
Testing produced no evidence of any archaeological activity. The only activity uncovered took the form of modern agricultural drains, which run downslope into the north-west corner of the field. In addition, there was a limited attempt at land reclamation, which saw subsoil being deposited into a series of shallow, natural hollows in this corner of the field. This most likely took place as part of the aforementioned 1952 scheme.
A field-walking survey was carried out in the area of the road corridor. However, this produced nothing earlier than 19th- and 20th-century
