An assessment was carried out from 1 to 3 April 2003 on the site of a proposed commercial development at Goodwins, Mulhuddart, Fingal, Co. Dublin. The RMP shows an enclosure within the site of the proposed development. The RMP file contains an aerial photograph (CUCAP-AYP55), which clearly shows a large circular cropmark approximately 25–30m in diameter, and gives an NGR reference of 30610 24084, which suggests that the monument is located within the area of this proposed development. The site had been used as a dump for a variety of modern materials, including building and domestic waste, the latter being burnt in a number of cases.

Five trenches were excavated. Two were orientated east–west, while three were orientated north–south. Two features were exposed, a shallow oxidised clay spread and a post-medieval ditch, both located within Trench 1 in the southern extent of the site. During the assessment, it became clear that there was a great variation in disturbance levels. Consequently, although no archaeologically significant features were encountered, trenching was not sufficient to establish whether or not archaeological deposits exist outside the trench locations.
