Monitoring was required of the removal of the eastern portion of a boundary in Field 6 of an ongoing residential development adjacent to the Skerries Road, to the north-east of Lusk village. The site consisted of a section of the boundary between the townlands of Lusk and Ballough, and was located within the zone of archaeological potential for the village of Lusk. The site was situated approximately 185m north of the church and round tower.
Monitoring was to include the removal of part of the field and townland boundary, to reduce the height to the ground level of the proposed development to the east, in order to accommodate the construction of roads for the development. The area of topsoil-stripping measured 19m north-west/southeast by 7m maximum width. The area consisted of flat low-lying ground with an overgrown low bank to the east, constituting the field/townland boundary. Prior to the topsoil-stripping, the area was cleared of the overgrowth. The removal of the undergrowth created sufficient space for the development to proceed without the proposed destruction of the boundary. The age of the field boundary is not known, but it is shown on the first-edition OS map of 1838. The excavation of the ground directly to the east of the boundary was not sufficient to confirm it to be related to the medieval land divisions encountered in the vicinity of this phase of works, due to the very limited disturbance that took place. No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified.
