A fourth programme of monitoring of topsoil-stripping was undertaken for the residential development known as ‘Chapel Farm’ in January 2003. The development is located to the south-west of Lusk village, and the area monitored is immediately outside the zone of potential for the medieval town. A buffer zone was put in place in the north-east portion of the site to protect archaeological features identified during a previous testing programme. This area has been designated as an ‘open space’ within the area of the development.
Monitoring of the phase of development adjacent to the open-space area did not yield any finds or features of archaeological significance. The majority of the area monitored had been deeply ploughed.
