Monitoring was undertaken on the works associated with the River Griffeen Flood Alleviation Scheme. The scheme comprised a series of works including regrading of the river and removal of debris from the riverbed, removal of two weirs (Neil Fairburn, No. 629, Excavations 2003, 03E0085), construction of an interceptor sewer south of Vessey Bridge, widening of the river in two areas and raising of various walls.
Stone-built culverts and earlier walls were identified during monitoring, but all were found to be post-medieval in date. No features of archaeological significance were identified.
