This work was undertaken as part of a programme ahead of the proposed realignment of the N2 Finglas to Ashbourne carriageway. The area investigated lies between Chainage points 2280 and 2600 on the proposed road, in the area designated as Testing Area 4. It was tested by means of a machine-excavated central trench with perpendicular offsets located on either side at 20m intervals.
Testing failed to produce any evidence of archaeological activity. Instead, only a modern field drainage system was uncovered, together with an irrigation system that was in use up until the recent past.
