Testing was undertaken as part of an assessment in advance of development works at the site. The site had been used as a yard, reflected by the upper level, which consisted of reinforced concrete. Two trenches were mechanically excavated to an average depth of 2.5m. The predominant stratigraphy was defined by a rubble backfill and the remnants of cellarage, which correspond to Nos 20 and 21 Shaw Street, which were probably laid out between 1811 and 1829. The artefactual evidence was confined to occasional late 19th-century bottle fragments.
