Testing was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential apartment block at Foley Street, Dublin 1. The proposed development is located on a former intertidal zone. Evidence from the testing suggests that this area was stabilised with rubble prior to the construction of buildings there. The presence of sands containing shell to the south-east of the proposed development indicates the location of a former beach or deposit layer. The other trenches all revealed evidence for gravels, which were evident closer to the present ground level, suggesting a natural ridge to the north-west. The basement was cut into this gravel. Nothing of archaeological significance was encountered during testing.
